Researchers surveyed nearly 3,000 adults in Australia who live in the community and more than 2,000 men and women who undergo surgery for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
The women who have surgery complain of stomach ulcers more often and more severely than men. The women are also more difficult to swallow solid food. The women were also more likely to consume drugs to treat ulcers compared with men.
